"YOU had the nerve to rape a gogo who had never had sex."
These were the words of South Africa's Magistrate Motshedisi Khuduga while sentencing a man who raped a 72-year-old virgin gogo.
Pule Ntseki (25) was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Botshabelo Magistrates Court on Friday for two counts of rape. He raped a 14-year-old girl after breaking into her house and was also sentenced to four years for housebreaking.
In 2012, he raped the orphan girl but he was only caught the following year when he was found raping the gogo while he was visiting one of her relatives.
He was caught naked in the gogo's bed. Cops found his semen matched that found on the girl and she positively identified him in an identity parade.
Prosecutor Mateboho Lekatsa said: "The court wants to send a clear message that we will not tolerate such brutal acts. The court must give a sentence that will warn everyone thinking of committing the same offence."
He also said the doctor who examined the gogo confirmed that she had been a virgin before the rape. Magistrate Khuduga said the girl he raped was robbed of her right to schooling because her marks dropped dramatically after the incident.
"Neither one of your victims had the power to protect themselves as the first victim was a minor and the second a mentally ill gogo. You showed no remorse," said Khuduga.
Several elderly grannies have been raped in South Africa. A 110-year-old gogo was raped and left traumatised by her abuser.
The 110-year-old Butterworth granny was partially blind to make matters worse. She said she was still in pain and battling to come to terms with what happened to her .
The centenarian was raped in her mud house in Jojweni village in Centane outside Butterworth in the neighbouring South Africa on the night of Saturday February 9. The incident left people shocked and horrified, and even led Eastern Cape traditional leaders to call for a reconsideration of the death penalty .
The granny, who lived with her 22-year-old granddaughter, has since been removed from her home and is now living with her 60-year-old son and his wife in Holela, a nearby village, where she yesterday spoke to the Daily Dispatch from her bed. She is a grandmother to 21 children and great-grandmother to six.
