Executive Secretary of the Zanzibar Commission for Tourism, Mr. Arif Manji, presented a handcrafted Zanzibari door to Sandra Carvão, Chief of Tourism Market Intelligence and Competitiveness at the UN Tourism, during the two-day 2nd Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Africa, held from April 23–24 at Gran Meliá in Arusha.
The discussions highlighted the UN Roadmap for Sustainable Waste Management (2019–2030) and its alignment with Zanzibar’s Greener Zanzibar Initiative, underscoring the vital link between sustainable tourism and environmental responsibility.
Ms. Carvão expressed her admiration for Zanzibar’s proactive approach to waste management, especially the upcoming mandatory waste management program for the tourism sector, set to launch on July 1st, 2025. She noted that the initiative reflects Zanzibar’s growing leadership in environmental stewardship and affirmed UN Tourism’s interest in continued collaboration.
